“You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away people’s initiative and independence. You cannot help people permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.”
– William J. H. Boetcker(not Abe Lincoln)
Scotty B and I are comin at ya from back home in Dallas, for me anyway. Scotty comes from the small town of Rockton, IL. He grew up around the family business, Bryden Motors, working there in the summers, unknowingly learning the ins and outs of it. All the while, harboring ambitions of being a computer programmer as a teenager in the 70’s.
Sadly Scott lost his grandfather his senior year of high school, instantly changing his plans to enter the family business as well, taking on the dealership his grandfather started. Staying with the family theme, he attended a college in Michigan where his grandfather actually formed the curriculum for the car dealership program. Scotty was there for 2 years and walked away with two, almost three associates degrees!
He took to partying in college like a duck to water and did it to the MAX. Spurring his early quitting drinking altogether led to an impressive 32 years of sobriety.
After college he went right back into the family dealership in management and sales. His love for the industry was strong, leading him to buy, on his own, a nearby Ford dealership. Owning that dealership helped his favorite pastime of car racing.
In 1995 he was presented with and embraced the role of father, welcoming his son Daytona into the world. It was on the road for a baseball tourney of his son’s that he began his journey down the health and wellness path.
Advice to younger self: Don’t drink, Choose your inner circle wisely, Don’t settle for convenience, forego instant gratification for future betterment
